The Prime Minister’s recent suggestion that the government might raise the OAS (Old Age Security) and GIS (Guaranteed Income Supplement) qualification age from 65 to 67 has many Canadians worried about their financial security in the coming years.
The Liberal Party of Canada Expert Working Group on Retirement Income Security drafted the Liberal White Paper on Pension Reform in October 2010, proposing several options for pension reforms and protection that do not include a reduction of any kind to public pensions.
I encourage you to read the full White Paper, entitled “Canadian Pension Security, Adequacy and Coverage; Public Policy Challenges and the Baby Boom Generation”, available here.
