Tonight, Jewish families across the Canada and around the world gather for Yom Kippur, The Day of Atonement. It is my great pleasure to join in marking this holy day and to celebrate the diverse and rich contributions of the Jewish community to Canadian society.
The occasion of Yom Kippur allows all of us, regardless of faith and cultural background, to reflect on those values that transcend any one religion, to convey compassion for those around us, and to encourage empathy for our neighbors. It is a day for all of us to look inward, think of our actions of the past year, and then look for ways that we can work together to build a better future and a more tolerant world.
On behalf of my family and staff, I extend my warmest wishes on this most solemn day.
Gmar Chatimah Tovah.
