Joyce Murray MP appeared on CTVNN Power Play and CPAC Primetime Politics on Thursday 27th September to discuss the recent House of Commons vote on Motion 312.
Whilst understanding it is a highly personal and difficult subject, Joyce defended the right of women to maintain sovereignty over their own bodies and reproductive rights against this attempt to gradually reopen the debate over abortion. She also questioned why the Rona Ambrose, in her role as Minister for the Status of Women, voted in favour of the motion and said she should be accountable to the Canadian public. Joyce went on to say that Prime Minister Stephen Harper was giving mixed signals from his government by allowing the Minister to vote in favour of the motion.
Joyce also outlined the consequences of reopening the abortion debate and said “…in Canada we want abortions to be rare but safe.”
