FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Vancouver — Joyce Murray, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Quadra, released the following statement today to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
“In 2005 the UN General Assembly designated January 27—the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau—as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This year’s theme is ‘Children and the Holocaust,’ which reminds us that 1.5 million Jewish children perished during this period.
The horrors of the Holocaust must serve as an incontrovertible warning for all time that all nations must work together to help prevent future genocides. As the number of direct witnesses to these atrocities diminish every year, we have a collective duty to carry the memory of the Holocaust to future generations and to remain vigilant against all attempts to discriminate, attack, or insult people based on their race, creed, colour, origin, religion, or sexual orientation.”
