Liberal Statement on the Anniversary of D-Day
OTTAWA— Liberal Veterans Affairs critic Sean Casey made the following statement today on the 68th anniversary of D-Day:
“History remembers June 6, 1944 as D-Day, the start of the Allied invasion of Normandy and the largest amphibious assault the world has ever seen. For Canadians it was the day when the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, the 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade and the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion took Juno Beach and helped begin the Allied march to liberate Europe. The valour shown by our 25,000 Canadian soldiers that day helped deliver victory in one of the most significant battles of the Second World War.
Today we remember the members of the Canadian Armed Forces who served so bravely that day, those who made the ultimate sacrifice on Juno Beach and throughout the Second World War. And we honor the service of our Canadian soldiers both past and present by recommitting ourselves to our veterans and their families. For risking your lives in the service of our country, you will never be forgotten.”
